What If…? S01 E08 - What if… Ultron Won?

BRIeF…

This show and episode was my very first time working at Flying Bark Productions. It was pretty exciting at the time that I wanted to immediately work on some shots on my first day at the studio however, I was told instead to look at some animatic and storyboards to help give me context of the show. I literally finished watching all of them by lunchtime.

I arrived at the studio around the very end of this episode’s deadline. And since I was only a junior at the time, I was mostly given small polishing shots such close up shots of the hand and minor lip sync fixes.

What worked?

Everyone at the studio was very friendly and helpful to me as I slowly got to know everyone and the project. My skills at the time was not that good but I slowly started to get use to the quick pace of the show. What also help was my overall excitement working on a Marvel Project.

What didn’t worked?

I remember having to animate a cape for one of the shots where its a above view of Ultron repeatedly punching the Watcher. For some reason the cape looked too stiff, the poses did look nice but the animation itself was not flowing. Took me a couple of attempts to the point that shot was given to another animator. This ended up being changed to just Ultron doing one final punch to Watcher and then cutting to the above shot where the cape just flows down.

What to improve?

I was mostly annoyed that I was not able to handle that cape shot. I would next time try to improve hand animating capes for the episodes in the future.
