Lip Sync

BRIeF…

During my freetime at ALA (Animal Logic Academy), I have been working on a lip sync animation on Fridays for the last 2 months.

Audio: Good Will Hunting

Rig: Malcolm

What worked?

With the knowledge I was given at ALA with minor and marco expressions, I was surprised as to the amount of time and detail I added onto the face. While comparing this and my previous lip sync animation, I can honestly say that I massively improved. The character are not as floaty and it’s focusing more on the acting then just characters moving around and being exaggerated.

The tie on the Malcolm rig was NOT working with me. Since its a ribbon rig, I ended up having to spend half an hours creating my own tie rig. Which ended up being easier to animate compared to the Malcolm tie rig.

What didn’t worked?

I wanted to do something with the glasses, either tapping them with his hand or something to make the character not sit still, but one of the feedbacks I got was that in the movie, the actors are not moving at all. I ended up removing the animation and moved the camera so its closer to the characters.

What to improve?

If I were to improve on this, I would have done more research on acting and facial animation as well as, animate a bit more on the hair.
